Hi, I’m Quay

I make pots and teach wheel thrown pottery from a studio based in Stoke Newington, London. I’m a former florist, working a variety of roles in the flower business over 8 years before taking the leap to become a full time potter. This past life has heavily inspired my works from the glazes I use (bright, tonal and textured much like how nature isn’t just one colour) to the forms I create.

My pieces aim to capture the beauty I see in nature and these elements are reflected in each pot in some way. These brighter features are contrasted with darker earthy tones of the clay which I keep an element of in all my pieces, paying homage to ground, the source of clay itself.

Focusing on joyful and tactile tablewares such as bowls, cups, jugs and teapots, each item is crafted with precision and functionality in mind. Each piece is carefully designed with the viewpoint of combining ergonomic minimal forms the decorated with complex and random beauty of nature in mind.

Smaller decorative pieces such as the bud vases I make regularly focus more on pushing my wheel throwing skills, act as a small nod to my past life and serve as smaller works of art. They’re also really cute :)
